Dominant postures help manage pain

A recent article in Newswise highlights research into aspects of pain management through posture. The study found that people were less sensitive to pain when they posed in a dominant posture (upright and expansive) rather than a submissive one (slouching). How does this work? It’s thought that dominant physical postures foster feelings of power, control, and resiliency. The authors suggest that dominant postures also may be better than pain relief medicines at treating pain.
